Signature's October Home of the Month is a two-story modular floor plan customized to suit the homeowners’ every need. Festively decorated with the family’s charming decor, this house epitomizes the versatility of modular construction and highlights how customizations produce a home that’s uniquely yours.

This Signature home was erected alongside the family’s 1800s farmhouse, maximizing the sight lines of a beautiful lakefront lot. Upon completion of the new structure, the original house was razed, but not forgotten; to honor the legacy of the site, the homeowners preserved various elements of the historic home, creatively repurposing antique wood as decor throughout the new house. As a result, this modern modular home is reminiscent of a classic farmhouse, adorned with sentimental references to the past.

After entering this house, visitors are greeted by a bright double-height foyer, arched passageways, and a wall of windows overlooking the lake. The shared living spaces are warmed by natural light throughout the day, as prominent windows flood the first floor with sun from every angle. The living room’s cathedral ceilings draw the eyes upward, showcasing the potential of modern prefab construction. A stone fireplace serves as a focal point, while salvaged hickory laid in a chevron pattern cascades down the wall beside it.

A glistening island anchors the eat-in kitchen, providing an abundance of additional storage, while black stainless steel appliances demonstrate the homeowners’ refined taste. A full dining room is adjacent to the kitchen, accessed via an arched passageway that cleverly disguises the mating wall (the load-bearing wall where one modular box is connected to another).

Custom details

Nods to the original farmhouse, such as this salvaged hickory accent wall installed by the homeowners, provide unique character and charm.

Three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, and an expansive laundry room are found within the home, each brightened by ample natural light throughout the day. The master suite, featuring a tripartite awning window above the bed, includes a tiled spa shower and an 8x11’ walk-in closet.

Arched headers, shaker cabinetry, tray and coffered ceilings, and dimmable LED lighting illustrate customizations completed before departing our Moosic factory. Signature Building Systems worked closely with Smith Caterson Custom Modular Homes throughout the construction process, and the builder put the finished the home once the boxes were set onsite. Onsite work completed by the builder includes the spacious front porch, the wood-paneled sun room, and the attached garage.
